I found that students who are high achievers, yet don't write well, will spend hours making revisions because with the bar graphs, they can easily tell where they need improvement. Also, students who are sure that their writing is terrific and refuse to listen to teacher comments about areas that need improvement are now forced to address their weaknesses with objective feedback. I am also able to give students grades based on objective data rather than subjective opinion, therefore, I am more sure of these grades and confident that I am being "fair".
