Vantage Learning announced Wednesday the release of the newest version of its Student Progress Monitoring System (SPMS™) for reading, math, writing, science, and social studies testing. The SPMS formative assessment and progress monitoring system offers immediate online results to provide educators an accurate diagnosis of student skills, enabling them to change curriculum where necessary in order to better accommodate their students’ learning needs. The web-based program is designed to aid K-12 schools and districts as they measure student progress in core academic skills.

The SPMS online system is also directly aligned to the National Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for Math and English Language Arts. “The alignment to Common Core State Standards is a natural extension of Vantage Learning’s commitment to helping students learn and teachers teach at the highest level possible, in accordance with emerging trends, such as the CCSS,” said Harry Barfoot, Vice President of Vantage Learning. “Because our SPMS platform is entirely Web based, states, schools and districts that are now responsible for adhering to these standards can begin to transition the new CCSS standards into classroom practice immediately.”

The Common Core State Standards Initiative is a state-led effort coordinated by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO). As of Friday, 34 states, including Washington, have adopted the CCSS. The initiative, developed in collaboration with school administrators and teachers, is expected to provide schools nationwide with a consistent set of standards to measure students’ progress in order to prepare them for college and the workplace.
